The goal of Slabtown Mercantile is to promote the values of self-sufficiency and to meet the needs of the present without compromising the future. Our workshops provide visitors with a way to learn about and practice various skills for homesteading. Click on a workshop below to learn more or to sign up today.

 

  • Natural Fabric Dyeing - use the power of locally grown and sustainably sourced botanicals to create custom and wearable works of art.

 

  • Homesteading Skills - discover the lost arts of self-sufficiency including but not limited to sewing, knitting and crocheting, basket making, fermentation like sauerkraut, apple cider vinegar, kombucha, knife sharpening, candle making, pickling and preserving, bee keeping.

 

  • Herbalism - tinctures, poultices, infused oils, salves and balms, and teas.

 

  • Local Foraging and Plant Identification – learn about ways to identify and utilize local flora.

 

  • Gardening - worm bins, composting, seed starting and saving.

 

  • Art - paper making, painting with various mediums, weaving, wreath and garland making.
